Software I use, things I love, and other stuff I can recommend.
I sometimes get asked about the things I use to build software and stay productive. Here's a small, incomplete list of my favorite stuff.
Workstation(s)
-
24" iMac M1 (Green), 8/8 Cores, 16GB RAM, 1TB SSD (2021)
Just got my hands on this in January 2023. Main workhorse.
-
15" MacBook Pro, 3.1 GHz Quad-Core Intel, 16GB RAM, 1TB SSD (2016)
Still works and does the job just fine. I'll jump on an M3 Macbook Pro as soon as they're out though as this box is starting to do some tasks a bit slow.
-
13" MacBook Pro, 3.1 GHz Quad-Core Intel, 8GB RAM, 512GB SSD (2018)
My backup machine. Mostly used when traveling. And to watch Netflix.
Peripherals & Accessories
-
DELL U2720Q Monitor
Great monitor which I can just plug it into any of my Macs using a USB-C cable. I wish it had speakers though.
-
Logitech MX Keys (Advanced, Graphite)
Can connect to 3 devices. Plus, it comes with a number keypad. Battery life is pretty disappointing though.
-
Logitech MX Master 3 (Graphite)
Something about all the gestures makes me feel like a wizard with special powers. I really like feeling like a wizard with special powers.
Development tools
-
PhpStorm
My IDE of choice. I use a light theme and I appreciate all the assistance from the Laravel Idea plugin.
-
Fork
I'm a GUI-Guy. IMO best Git app out there.
-
iTerm2
I'm honestly not even sure what features I get with this that aren't just part of the macOS Terminal, but it's what I use.
Productivity
-
Alfred
It's not the newest kid on the block, but it's still the fastest. The Sublime Text of the application launcher world.
-
Spotify
I can't work without music.
